North West CentreGarstang Marina, Near PrestonJust opened is our new RYA Training Centre, at the picturesque Garstang Marina, a little north of Preston. This area not only borders the coast at Fleetwood and Knott End, but also is on the Inland Waterways system. Garstang has something for everyone. Set on the banks of the River Wyre, it is an area of outstanding natural beauty. It is steeped in history, with beautiful architecture, abundant wildlife and an array of activities. Since 2000, Garstang has become known as the World's First Fairtrade Town. The area is ideal for a getaway, so why not take a course and enjoy the surroundings too. You can also enjoy golfing, fishing, bird watching and walks of all levels. Garstang is a small market town with a big history, and is even mentioned in the Doomsday book as Cherestanc. There is a distinctive character of medieval times in the High Street with the Market Cross and Greenhalgh Castle as focal points. Since 1310, there has been a weekly market held every Thursday, with the market house also open on Wednesdays and Saturdays, for fresh produce. Garstang hosts many events all year round, including a Walking Festival, a Show, an Arts and Music Festival, and a Victorian Festival in December. For visitors, there is a range of accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets, whether you prefer bed and breakfast, hotel or self catering. From this Centre we can offer our complete range of shorebased courses as shown on the other pages of our website, as well as own boat tuition. Any practical courses required on our training vessels, will take place from our main centre in Pwllheli. | |||||||||||||||||||
